Adam Kienas ENG 2 - FINAL EXAM
Reading the stories, it only sounds like Benitez is trying to find any other way to go against the alcohol theory. Why does he not share any of Poe’s animal history? The only animal that appears in the story is the cat, but how did the cat pass the rabies without a scratch or cut? Rabies also causes series affects that would have been noticed by Doctor Moran and hospital staff. And if not the cat, what? Poe has bee trying to beat being an alcoholic with proof of family letters.
I believe with him being drunk made him stupid and careless, just like drunk driving. He was ignorant to the weather and turned up in “soiled” clothing, which possible made him very ill on top of the drinking. How do we know how long he was out before he was found? It is a very possible and reliable conclusion to Edger Allen Poe’s death. Finally, being drunk for a period of time and getting sick from weather caused Poe’s death, according to my information, and the stories information. Poe caused his own life with his recklessness.
Gloria Trujillo Eng.2(8)- final exam
In one of the theroies, they said that Poe was drunk posioned. It was said that there was heavy rain and cold wind in Baltimore. Poe was at the bar with used cloths with a blank look on his face. A taxi guy decided to take him to the hospital because he needed to go. While he was in the hospital, the docters said that experienced some wierd syptoms. Four dats later he died.
The other theory was that he had rabies when he died. Dr. Micheal Benitz says that it was true that he was at the bar and wearing used cloths, but he was not drunk. He said that the way Poe died was not the way it was not written in the newspaper. They are postive that he did not die because he was drunk posioned. All they need is the symptoms he had and a diagnosis and they can prove it.
Final Exam Essay
He was acting funny and wierd. He wanted to start a fight and at the begining he said he had an alcolholism promble when he was younger. Poe was acting strange and many people were feeling like they don't know what was wrong or what was happeing to him.
Poe had many supports on his side especially his couisn that became his wife. Like his cousin Henry Herring. And the doctors were doing the best they can to help hi. They said that he was a great man. He's been working around in soiled clothes and a soiled hat. No one really understands him. When he was hella and screaming and yelling out "lord take me amd my epired"!
Nissa Douglas-- Eng 2final exam
I think he died because of to much alcohol. He was delerious and had tremors. Dr. John J. Moran said he belives he had mania a potu, its an alcoholic state which the victum gets irrational and may become violent. Mania a potu is latin and means "madness from drinking."
In other stories/articles it says Poe had a fever before he left Richmond. And that they think it might be rabies that caused his death. But what I don't get about that is how did he get it. you never know he might of had rabies and alcohol poisoning. He could of been to drunk to know what happend to himself. Its also said in one story he could have been exposed to the wind and rain etc.
So in conclusion i am with the doctors about how he died. All the facts are there. He had almost every symptom. So therefor he must of died from alcohol.
La`Shayda Barnes -- ENG2(8) -FINAL EXAM
Some articles say Poe could of had a case of Rabies,Encephalitis. There is no evidence or signs of the disease. Poe had a cat, but she did not test for Rabies. It is worth noting that there was no available vaccine for pest at the time.
Another article says Poe had left Richmond September 27, a Thursday to set ouyt for Baltimore on the 4 a.m steamer. Yet known Poe was announced dead in another article on Sep.23. Joseph Walker saw him at the Gunners hall, a Baltimore Tavern. Poe was strangly dressed and Semiconscious. Family members were called and camer to the Tavern. Poe was not speaking or nothing at all.
Poe was then rushed to a hospital of Washington Medical College. He had a Delirium, a Tremor and a lot of other Diadnosis. Poe may have been to drunk to protect himself from the rain and wind and he was very sick. He was in the hospital for 4 days and was later pronounced dead.
Erik Soberano English 2 Final Exam
IN Kennth Silverman's story, it has said that at 4 a.m. of September 27, a Thursday. Poe was found on the street dressed strangely and was semiconcious therefore being drunks causes it. Making him more ill was the weather of Baltimore of the wind a rain. It has said that on other ocassions he has been drunk before and acted really differently.
Maybe the gothic windows helped him and his delusion. Alcohol makes people htink of things and ''see'' things. Arrivingat the hospital it was said he looks stupor maybe cause by the alcohol. Another symptom was that he had a pale face and was drenched in sweat. He also talked constantly with jibberish and was very delusional.
After Poe's conditions bettered, he was questioned about his family and his answers were so called "cohereted". Most likely caused by the alchol. Poe was helped by Moran trying to keep him alive and well. After Moran got back POe was very violent.
My reasonings wht the cause of Poe's death has much proof in the text. It is said the the history of his life has many alocholic events. His relatvies were aslo affected by his alcoholism. The many events of his history with alochol may have gave him his toll by dying by it. With all that information, I say that he died of alcoholism and not rabies.
Zuleica Hernandez eng2 Final Exam
They say Edgar Allan Poe did not die drunk. They said,'' it might of been rabies. He was supposeably been at a bar the day before he was unconcious. They had found him the day after and he was found at the bar unconcious. That day they took him to the hospital. He had new symptoms everyday until 4 days from the day he was found he died.
They had said,'' that poe was sensitive to alcohol. When he was young he would drink alot. He watched his drinking. So there was no way he had died drinking. He would refuse alcohol or water he would have difficulty drinking it. They studyed that about one fourth of rabie victims cannot remember bieng bitten.
They say poe almost surely did not die of alcohol poisioning or withdrawal. He was so sensitive to alcohol that a glass of wine would get himill for days. So i think that he might gotten bittin by something that had contained rabies. And didnt show until a while. The symptoms of rabies dont show i think till a year later from having it.
What i think happened was that maybe the cat he had may have contained rabeis. And had probably bit him or scrathed him. They saud that one or poes family members left the cat in bronx . The cat then later died of starvation. I think he did have rabies and died from it.

And knowing a man that drinks allot probably gets drunk if you drink a lot and alcohol poisoning comes with other things not just one thing that is alcohol poisoning. When you get alcohol poisoning you end up getting sick or a virus in you cause you drank allot. Your stomach goes crazy you can feel it in your stomach.
Poe really dies of rabies but he was at the hospital foe r a long time thinking that he had alcohol poisoning. And really was in the hospital dying of alcohol poisoning. If i was there I would have told him what was he doing that night cause other things have happened. And what happened eofre he drank and why he drank. I would have told him lots of stuff so i can get where ad found out lots of stuff on how he got sick.
He dies of rabies not of alcohol poisoning. In the hospital for a long time. I really think that he died of time and no cures that help. If they would have found out earlier he would have been better and well he would have been here cause that was in the 1800's so he would have died any way. So yeah I think that i would have taking lses time to find out what happened. And if earier there would have been a cure for rabies.
Krystle Tufts Eng2 Final Exam
They said that there were no bite wounds of sny animal. They thought the cat had rabbies but they don't know for sure. The doctor said he was yelling at imaginary objects. Yeah rabbies can kill you but they said that rabbies causes you to itch and go numb. Later the doctor said that he had brain damage, usally caused by alchol.
Not only that someone said that he gets abusive when he drinks. If he got mean alot that means he was probably drunk. Maybe the reason why his colthes were ruined is because he probably got into a fight because he was drunk. The doctor said his cat was hungry, starved, and lonely. Maybe the reason why was he was drunk and did not care.
I think the author was trying to figure out what really happened. He was giving evidence on what happened. I think he thought that the rabbies had killed him because he seems to back that up alot and or talk about it. When he talks about the story he makes the alchol faulty and doesn't give alot of evidence on that. The author puts up a good argument that's why I think that the alchol was the cause of Edgar Allen Poe.
Mayra Rivas Eng 2-Final Exam
This story is good because it gives you good explanations like the setting. it also tells you like who was involved and what happened.
It tells you who Poe is and Poe is the guy who got rabies. And Poe is the one who has rabies and Caterina is scared and angry.
The cat gave rabies to Poe and so Poe died and thats when Caterina got really mad. So she tried getting the vaccine medicine and the medicine is a shot that you get for getting bit by a dog.
A diognostics is not always easy or straight-forward. The incubation period in humans may be as long as a year, if the inoculation is small and occurs on the hand or foot. Thus the lack of evidence of a bite or scratch is not inconsistent with diagnosis.
Graciela Pedroza English 2008-Fianl Exam
The way I think he died was because at a young age he started to drink. Before he died, before the 4 days he died, they found him outside of a bar. Near all the trash cans. So they took him to a hospital and said that there was no alcohol in his system. But how do they know he wasn't laying there for days, weeks, or maybe even months? Even though they said that every time he would see wine or anyhting considered as alcohol he would be sick for like a month by just drinking a cup. What if he took some pills so they wouldn't find him drunk in the hospital.
Well the article that I just read say that he died of several things like Rabies. Well they said that he had a cat living with him. But when Poe died they went to his house to see if his cat had Rabies or not? Well unfortunately his cat did not have anything wrong with him. Also Poe did not no bite or scratch for him to get Rabies. Rabies don't just pop out of nowhere!
So there are some of my facts, about Poe. So waht I really think hoe Poe died is drinking too much. How did Poe die? His death stays a mystery.
Jessica Voyles ENG 2-Final Exam
I also dont believe that Poe's cat gave him rabies, but that some other animal from sometime ago had bit him, because the doctor that cared for him those four days did not find bite marks and believed that he was not dying from alcohol but from a case of rabies because he had all the signs of it.
But it's still a mystery on the real reaon he died he did not have any bite marks that they know of and also had to same behaviors as a person with delrium tremens. The true story can also not be revealed because of the lack of medical advances.
Which brings me to my theory of Poe's death. I believe he had rabies and never knew. And one night he decided to drink a little more then usual which triggered his syptoms of rabies. And died four days later.
Victoria Najera English-2008 Final Exam
Others don't really make alot of sence to me there confusing how he died. They change what happen and talk about things that shouldn't have been in there, that don't really help.
It also tells you that other people got rabies too. That bats subtypes have been seen that they have rabies and they found that rabis have been transmitted at that time.
He was dignosis easy striaght foward. The lack of evidence of a bite or scratch is not inconsisten with the diagnosis. There is a small incolation that occurs on the hand or foot.
So thats basicly why i think this theoy is true. It was hard to choose one because there was one that was like the same. This theory for me was the most realalistc. So i think rabies killed Poe.
Natasha Santos English 2-Final Exam
Then on this story they said things about where it happened, why, whom, what and how. It said alot of detail in the story. And I also like how the the people explained it.
It explained how people around him got "Rabies" too. Then the bats subtypes have been seen that they have "Rabies" also. The people found "Rabies" transmitted at the time.
The diagnosis is not always easy or straight forward. The incubation period in humans maybe as long as a year, if the inoculation is small and occurs on the hand or foot. The lack of evidence of a bit or scratch is not inconsistent with the diagnosis.
So that's why I think he died of "Rabies". Beacause alot of people also got very effected. Then also bats got it. So it could of been very dangerous around that time.
LASHALA ROBINSON FINAL EXAM englis 2
Blanca Reyes ENG 2(8)-FINAL EXAM
The reason I have come to believe that Rabies was not the cause of death is because I think he would have died sooner. Not only because he would have had the poison inside of his body but his body probly wouldnt have been able to handle it while also trying to stay alive against the rain and wind.By then i think that his body would have given out.
If it would have also been Rabies I believe the hospital would have reacted differently to help him. And in the artical that followed Poe the most wand gave more detail about his behavior. It had no information about him suffering from wounds. It just seems like a story that was over exagerated over time with barly any evedence.
Poes death was more likly to have been caused from Alchohal poisioning , and Hypothermia in the late stages. The Rabies story also doesnt give logical reasoning that would make it more believe able . The story lacks to much evedence and contains tomany gaps. Which is why i believe he didnt die from it.

Elizabeth Rodriguez- ENG 2(8) - Final Exam
I think you can accomplish the "American Dream" anywhere. I just think it's up to what type of person you are and how hard you are willing to work. If you really want something you just have to work hard and never give up. People just find it easier to come here to the U.S.A because there's more help. The "American Dream" is not only here, it's everywhere and its what everybody wants.
The relationship with the "American Dream" and Gatsby is that Gatsby was a very ambitious perso. He wanted to be wealthy to attract the girl of his dreams. He became very rich and he had it all but the love of his life. Eventhough he had all the money he wanted he wasn't happy. He had came from another country to become successful and have money, so that's how I think it relates to the "American Dream."
Overall the "American Dream" to me is just an illusion. You can become successful anywhere you want if you really wanted to. With dedication, perseverance, and hard work you can accomplish anything you set your mind to. There's people out there that don't want you to be successful and it's not easy but you have to learn to ignore them and keep in mind what it is that you want.

In the story of the Odysseus as told Homer Greek values are shown Loyalty, Obedience, and Respect were important cultural norms. These values were revealed in several books. Today we face situations which have the same values. Odysseus’s legend still has relevance in today’s modern world.
Loyalty-Penelope has faith in Odysseus for 20 years. Argos (the dog), after 20 years of waiting, he finally sees his master and dies. Odysseus’s men had loyalty to each other.
Obedience-The suitors had disobeyed Odysseus by listening when he said not to open the bag of wind. In which they did. So now there lost in the middle of nowhere. His wife always did what Odysseus told her to do. She’d always had love for him. Then also when Odysseus had told the suitors, “To not go anywhere, or touch anything because we’re just here for a little break.” So then the suitors didn’t listen. And then they went more into the island of Cicones and slaughtered the sacred cows.
Respect-The suitors don’t respect other’s property and that’s why they get killed by Odysseus. Or when Cyclops didn’t respect the suitors and that’s when Cyclops got his eye pocked out. Also when the men of Ithica don’t respect Odysseus; they try to take his place by getting married with Odysseus’s wife. And when then men have sex with Odysseus’s maids. The Odyssey is a legend which reveals many of the Greek values. Loyalty, Obedience and Respect are found in many stories. Today we can find values in the world. The influence of Greek culture on modern Western people is important.

In The Odyssey story of Odysseus as told by Homer, Three Greek values are critical. They are 1) Loyalty 2) Respect 3) Faithfulness towards the Gods were distinct cultural norms. The Greek values were told in several chapters. Today our world faces similar situations, which hold essence of the same values. Odysseus’s myth still has relevance in today’s controversial world.
1) In the story The Odyssey, the Greek Value Loyalty, comes in the story
when Odysseus leaves his family for his country but at the same time is disloyal to his family and he leaves on the same day his son, Telemachus is born. In another story Odysseus meets a Cowherd and a Swineherd and is disguised as a beggar and asks them both “If King Odysseus came back would you fight on his side?” and the swineherd and the cowherd said yes with no doubt.
2) In the story The Odyssey, the Greek Value Respect Strangers, comes in the story in the chapter Polyphemus a.k.a. Cyclops. Odysseus and his men entered the cave of Polyphemus without his consent and made themselves at home by using all of his stuff like drinking and eating his food and lying on his bed. Then Polyphemus arrived back home and right away questioned the strange guests, which is defying the Greek Value of respect. In another story The Test of the Great Bow Odysseus disguises himself as a beggar goes in line to go up for the test but the suitors insult him and say that he shouldn’t even given a chance to string the bow. Then Penelope gives him respect by letting “the beggar” do the test.
3) In the story of Calypso, after Odysseus is able to leave the island Poseidon confronts him about defying the authority of the Gods and argues with him and tells Odysseus that he has disrespected him and now tells Odysseus that he will torture him very bad and will cause him trouble to get home.
The Odyssey is a myth, which demonstrates many of the Greek
values 1) Loyalty 2) Respect 3) Faithfulness towards the Gods revealed in many chapters of the myth. Today we can find those same values in life. The influence of Greek culture on modern civilization is well used.

In The Odyssey story of Odysseus as told by Homer, three Greek values are critical. They are Loyalty, Respect, and Heroism and were distinct cultural norms. These values were represented in several chapters. Today our world faces similar situations, which hold essence of the same values. Odysseus’ epic still has relevance in today’s opinionated world.
In the book loyalty occurs many times. One in particular is when Odysseus actually gets on the boat and leaves to troy. It shows how loyal he is to his country and how even though it is his choice, he decides to stay true to his beliefs and to Ithaca. Also, on top of just leaving to the war, he is also leaving his new born son, witch if you can imagine, would be a tragic decision to have to make.
One other value that reoccurs in The Odyssey is respect. A huge showing of this value is when Penelope insists for the beggar (Odysseus) to try “The Test of The Great Bow” while the rest of the suitors and disloyal Ithacans laugh in his face and do not even think the idea of him trying. In the end, Penelope of course has her way and the beggar is the only one that is able to defeat the task, which shows respects importance in Greeks legacies.
Also in the book, one of the largest, most shown throughout the story, and obvious is heroism. In The Odyssey they make it very bold that heroism doesn’t just come from physical strength, it also shows in mental challenges. One time it shows this is during the controversy with the Cyclops, Odysseus has him drunk and has one of his men play music to let him fall asleep, then has a giant spike driven into his eye while his men escape under sheep skin. Only inside that one task does Odysseus show cleverness and mental strength several times. Heroism takes place during almost all of his challenges in some sort of way.
The Odyssey is a legend, which reveals many of the Greek values. Loyalty, Respect, and Heroism are shown in many books of our time. Today we can see those same values in life. The influence of Greek culture on modern western civilization is well recognized today.

So one day Della was saving up money to buy a present for Jim for Christsmas, she counted how much money she had! One dollar and eighty-eight cents. She kept on reapeating to herself, what am I gonna buy for Jim with $1.88? SO she went around town to see what she wanted to buy for her husband? So she saw a chain for Jim. She said that ti was exactly for him and made just for Jim. But the only thing was that it was $20.00.
Then she went to a store and a lady said "You have beautiful long hair" Della replied "Thank You." The lady said that she would cut it off of her for $20.00. So Della agreed to cut her hair to buy Jim the chain. So she went home and Jim walked in with Dellas Christsmas present, Jim had saw Dellla had cut her hair really short! Jims expression was down and depressed. Della said "Please Jim don't be sad, I cut my hair to buy you a present!"
Then Jim said "Here open your present"..... Della opened it and her face just wanted to burst into to tears. Dellas present was expensive combs, different kinds. Then Della said "Here open your present", Jim opened it! Della told Jim to put the chain with his grandfathers watch and Jim told her "I sold mt watch to buy your combs." So basically they both gave up each others valuable thing, to give each other a gift!
