Elizabeth Rodriguez- ENG 2(8) - Final Exam

Many people come to the United States to achieve the "American Dream." People say the American Dream is to have money, own a house, to have a good job and to be successful. In my opinion I think the American Dream is an illusion but sometimes I think it's both reality and illusion. People who come from other countries to the U.S.A most of them come because they want a better life and this country has a lot of opportunities. My parents brought my brothers and I to the U.S.A to obtain a better education, go to college and to become successful but I see that my brothers didn't want any of the opportunities that were offered to them because they have rocks on their brains and don't think right. Now they have to work very hard in construction to get paid good. Me on the other hand, I'm about to graduate from high school on Friday and I'm going to college this fall 2008.
I think you can accomplish the "American Dream" anywhere. I just think it's up to what type of person you are and how hard you are willing to work. If you really want something you just have to work hard and never give up. People just find it easier to come here to the U.S.A because there's more help. The "American Dream" is not only here, it's everywhere and its what everybody wants.
The relationship with the "American Dream" and Gatsby is that Gatsby was a very ambitious perso. He wanted to be wealthy to attract the girl of his dreams. He became very rich and he had it all but the love of his life. Eventhough he had all the money he wanted he wasn't happy. He had came from another country to become successful and have money, so that's how I think it relates to the "American Dream."
Overall the "American Dream" to me is just an illusion. You can become successful anywhere you want if you really wanted to. With dedication, perseverance, and hard work you can accomplish anything you set your mind to. There's people out there that don't want you to be successful and it's not easy but you have to learn to ignore them and keep in mind what it is that you want.
