I most likely agree with the article "Poe's Death is Rewritten as Case of Rabies, Not telltale Alcohol," because the story seems more accurate to me. Poe obviously had problems with drinking when he was young. But now in his early thirties to his early forties, he basically always avoided the alcohol.
When they seen him in a bar on Lombard Street they just assumed that he was drinking alcohol and that he was drunk. He was probably wearing someone else's soiled clothes because maybe his got stolen. Poe was just falsely accused of bad conduct. It really isn't fair being accused of something that you used to do a long time ago, but no longer do anymore.
In the hospital Poe must've been pale in the face, but that is not because of him being drunk. He was pale in the face because he was sick and he had a disease. There was also no actual evidence of him being bitten by an animal an Poe didn't recall ever being bitten by an animal.
Poe being in the hospital was a tragic thing becuase no one really knew why he was sick. When Poe was at the hospital he was hallucinating and yelling at things that weren't really there. Moran tried asking Poe questions but Poe didn't reply with a truthful answer. Instead, he replied with answers he thought to be true or things he imagined.
Poe died because he was either an alcoholic or because he had a disease known as rabies. My thoughts I think that Poe had a disease and that is why he died because he did avoid drinking alcohol. No one really had good evidence that he was drunk other than his appearance. That would be my opinion about that story being most accurate.
