The Odyssey

In the Odyssey story of Odysseus as told by Homer our hero is called to face many obstacles and hardships. He must reclaim his kingdom and get home with the help of his men. In the long journey home Odysseus is transformed into a hero and creates his own paradise.
The separation in this story is when the Trojan War calls for Odysseus to leave not only his wife but his new born son. The descent happens when he leaves on the boat.
The initiation part in this story occurs in the Polyphemous’s (the Cyclops) cave, with Circes, in the Land of the Dead, and also with the sirens. Odysseus’s has many mentors threw the story such as Athena, Circe, Teriseous, and Aeolia. Athena helps Odysseus the whole way threw. Circe also helps Odysseus by telling him to go to the Land of the Dead and talk to Tieresias about his destiny. When Odysseus returns back to Circe she tells him how to get past the sirens and Scylla. During this journey some ways Odysseus transforms by winning the war and beating the Cyclops.
In his return after 10 years of war and 10 years striving to get back to his wife he reclaims his kingdom, kills all the suitors and rekindled the love wit his wife after 20.
Homer’s legend describes a true Hero’s Journey. Odysseus is called to the Trojan War. During his journey he overcomes challenge with help from Athena. Odysseus proves himself to be an classic warrior.
